The uMngeni Resilience Project (URP) hosted a workshop to increase the resilience of vulnerable communities to extreme weather-related events in their area. Early Warning Systems was an important aspect of the workshop which will aid in assisting communities in planning for extreme events.

Finance, conflict resolution and short project timeframes are some of the contributing factors that impacts successful adaptation initiatives in Southern Africa. The article discusses the methodolody of the study undertaken to investigate these constraints and also suggest approaches.

Climate information is an important aspect of planning for climate change impacts. The 2nd edition of the “Climate Risk and Vulnerability Handbook for Southern Africa” will present the latest available scientific knowledge on climate change implications for southern Africa and will greatly influence decisions made regarding social vulnerability and adaptive capacity.

Although the Bonn Climate talks was a rigorous two weeks of negotiations, the conference ended up not meeting expectations and substantial work will still have to be done during COP 23 in Bonn in November.
