Involvement in national and international processes
The Adaptation Network is linking its members to national processes in South Africa – providing feedback on national processes and informing and supporting these processes with input from its broad stakeholder base.
The Adaptation Network is represented on the following structures, among others:
National Climate Fund Coordinating Committee (first known as Adaptation Fund National Implementing Steering Committee)
As one of the few institutions with the necessary cross-cutting experience in adaptation to climate change, established through its leadership of the 2nd National Communication on Climate Change (SNC), the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) was requested by the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to house the National Implementing Entity (NIE) to the Adaptation Fund. In late 2011, SANBI successfully met the criteria of the global Adaptation Fund Board to achieve the accreditation to be a NIE with the endorsement of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
Objective: Support and guide the processes of the NIE
Members: The DEA, SANBI, Treasury, the National Planning Commission and the Adaptation Network
Adaptation Network representative: Kgaugele Chiloane(WWF)
Project Advisory Group committee (PAG)
