The Mobile Journalism Workshop, organised by Indigo Development and Change, was a comprehensive 5-day training programme held in East London, South Africa. The workshop featured 12 female participants aged 25 to 28 and was facilitated by Mr. Dominique.
Day 1: The workshop began with an introduction to mobile journalism, covering its history and significance.
Day 2: Participants learned the rules of mobile journalism and practised taking photos using the five-sequence method at local businesses.
Day 3: The Universal Smartphone Video Kit was introduced, and participants were taught how to connect their mobiles to the kit for stable photo and video capture.
Day 4: Practical sessions focused on using the video kits for clear audio and visuals. Interviews were conducted at Kusile High School, but background noise posed challenges.
Day 5: To address audio issues, interviews were re-conducted at Hill View Farms, resulting in clearer sound. The day concluded with video editing, marking the end of the workshop.
The workshop provided participants with hands-on experience in mobile journalism, including photography, video recording, and editing. Key highlights included practical sessions at local businesses and schools, overcoming audio challenges, and successfully completing video projects. The training equipped participants with essential skills, preparing them for future endeavours in mobile journalism.
