PACJA South Africa – Community Empowerment Workshops
PACJA South Africa, as part of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance, is dedicated to empowering South African communities through education, collaboration, and practical climate resilience strategies. Recent activities have included workshops and awareness campaigns in partnership with local organisations, such as the Sisonke Revolutionary Movement in Orange Farm, Soweto. These events focus on educating communities about climate change, its impacts, and practical mitigation and adaptation measures like agro-ecology and circular economy projects. The workshops aim to equip individuals with the necessary skills for sustainable practices and future climate resilience.

Mxumbu Youth Agricultural Coop: Climate Change Youth Event
The event featured a series of insightful presentations aimed at educating the youth about climate change, its impact on agriculture, and potential solutions. The workshop brought together key speakers including Professor Mutengwa on climate-smart agriculture, Mr. P Xelewa on drug abuse, Ms. Likhona on gender-based violence (GBV), and Mr. L Nkopo on climate change, land access, and water issues. The day also included discussions, a poetry performance, and a Q&A session with participants, fostering community engagement and awareness.

Climate Change Adaptation and Livelihoods Enhancement Learning Event
The two-day workshop focused on enhancing skills for climate change adaptation and improving livelihoods through sustainable farming practices. Day one featured sessions on climate-resilient agriculture, nutrition-sensitive production, and value-adding techniques for local crops. Day two offered hands-on training in seed saving, soil fertility management, pest control, and fruit tree care, including pruning and grafting. Participants engaged in practical gardening activities at a local homestead, where they applied these techniques directly.

Youth Event: Climate Change and Mitigation
The event featured discussions on the dangers of not recycling, sustainable farming methods, and the importance of environmental justice. Practical sessions included demonstrations on composting and tree planting. Other sessions focused on business opportunities in farming and waste management, community policing, and journalism.

Local Stakeholder Field Visit in eMangwaneni CSO SEED Capacity Building Training Event
The event featured field visits to restoration sites in eMangwaneni and Impendle, where participants observed various restoration efforts. Highlights included demonstrations of the nappies experiment for growing Napier fodder and community-led spring rehabilitation. Additionally, participants learned about rangeland grazing management through the Herding for Health (H4H) project. The day concluded with a joint reflection session and a discussion on Conservation Agriculture (CA) at the home of the Induna of Ntwasahlobo.

Bergville Field Exchange Visit (CSO SEED)
Participants engaged in a two-day field exchange, visiting various conservation agriculture (CA) plots in Bergville. They observed intercropping techniques, compared open-pollinated and hybrid seed varieties, and discussed sustainable farming practices. The visit included practical demonstrations of runoff monitoring and the use of innovative planting tools.
